We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve just acquired the rights to The Burning Light by Bradley P. Beaulieu and Rob Ziegler! The book was bought by Justin Landon for Tor.com. The Burning Light is a science fiction novella reminiscent of Paolo Bacigalupi’s The Windup Girl and Ramez Naam’s Nexus. Humanity is networked, seeing through each others’ eyes and emoting with just a thought. It’s a stark, honest portrayal of what it’s like to be removed from what you love most, and how desperate we all are to repair that connection.

But with miniguns.

Gemmell Award-nominated Beaulieu had this to say:

“I’m thrilled (thrilled!) that Justin Landon and the Tor.com imprint thought enough of this story to publish it. The novella, it seems to me, is a very underserved market, and the imprint is already off to a roaring start with their opening salvo of stories. I can’t wait to start digging in, along with my co-conspirator, Rob, and our editor, Justin, and see how far we can take this eco-punk tale.

And if I may, I’d like to take the chance to thank Rob for tackling this story with me. It’s meaty. I’m a better writer for having written it. And a big part of that was Rob’s virtuoso skill as a writer and his unique vision.”

Ziegler added:

“I’m incredibly happy to be working with Justin, Lee and the crew at Tor.com, and to participate in their vision. Long stories need love, too.

It has also been a great pleasure working with Brad (The Bard) Beaulieu. We batted this thing back and forth for years—years! Without Brad’s unflinching sense of structure, without his ability to play the long game or his knack for keeping an eye on the far horizon of a big narrative arc, The Burning Light would’ve never come to life. We make a damn good team. Thanks, man.”

Editor Justin Landon said of the project:

“When Brad and Rob approached me with The Burning Light, and told me they were co-writing it, I could hardly contain my excitement. I was huge fans of both since their debuts in 2011. I was right to be excited. It is the perfect combination of their writing—edgy and refined, pensive and breakneck—filled with grim determination and a desperate hunger for human connection. The Burning Light will sear your brain. It did mine.”

The Burning Light will be available worldwide in ebook, trade paperback, and audiobook some time late next year. In the meantime you can keep up with our latest releases and award-winning fiction by signing up for the Tor.com Publishing newsletter.
